Bay
Area Commuter Services can help you...
Cut
Gas Use and Costs NOW!
Are high gas costs putting
a dent in your budget? Bay Area Commuter
Services (BACS) is here to assist you, the commuter,
and you, the business owner/manager in ways to both conserve and
cut the costs associated with the commute to and from work. Here
are some of the "right now" ways to cut costs:
CARPOOLING:
Two or more people sharing the ride to and from work, school or
other activities. This is a flexible option that allows use as many
or as few times a week, according to the wishes of the carpool members.
Click
here to learn more about carpooling or to register
for carpool matching online.
VANPOOLING:
A group of five or more people sharing the ride to and from work
regularly each week. There is a fee to participate, based on the
distance traveled; participants share gas, toll and parking expenses
where applicable. Click
here to learn more about vanpooling or to
register for vanpool matching online.
RIDE
THE BUS:
Take reading materials with you; it'll be time well spent, as well
as money and gas saved. Click
here for a list of transit companies in the region.
TELEWORK:
How would you like to go to work and not even leave your house?
Try teleworking. This modern commute option is quickly catching
on, and there are many benefits and cost savings. In many cases
the equipment to facilitate this option is a minimal investment.

COMPRESSED/FLEXIBLE
WORK WEEKS:
Ask your employer about compressed work weeks (working 5 days in
4, for example) and/or Flexible Work Weeks. Click
here for more information about compressed and flexible work week
schedules.
PLAN
AHEAD:
Plan your weekly schedules so as not to duplicate trips. Check for
the most fuel efficient routes to regular places you visit. Consider
carpooling to shopping and other destinations with neighbors or
friends. For more tips, contact Bay Area
Commuter Services at 800-998-RIDE.
For commuters
who want to rideshare but are afraid of being stranded at work without
a car, ask BACS about the Emergency Ride Home (ERH) program, which
offers a free* taxi ride home to registered participants who use
a commute option other than driving alone at least two days per
week. Click
here for complete details on the Emergency Ride Home program
or call 800-998-RIDE for assistance. *certain
