Bay Area Commuter Services, Inc. (BACS) is one of the Florida Department of Transportation's nine commuter assistance programs within the state. It is a private, non-profit organization founded and funded by the State of Florida Department of Transportation to promote transportation alternatives to the single-occupant vehicle in the Tampa Bay area and surrounding counties. The agency operates in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties.

Mission
To enhance the region's economic prosperity by actively influencing the reduction of traffic growth and air pollution by promoting commute options and developing new programs to help reduce peak hour traffic congestion for businesses and the community.

Goals
Our goals are to -

  • Reduce the number of single occupant vehicles during the peak hours of traffic
  • Educate, facilitate and consult with regional businesses and the community to provide transportation solutions that reduce traffic congestion
  • Integrate and coordinate with transportation-related agencies in the region
  • Effectively market commute options to the region
  • Create and promote incentives for businesses and commuters which reduce traffic congestion
  • Enhance products and services to improve BACS' effectiveness

Programs and Services
In addition to providing commuter programs and services, BACS also provides employer programs and services aimed at assisting employers interested in implementing effective programs at their work site to reduce overhead costs, relieve on-site traffic congestion, parking problems and to help decrease employee turnover and enhance job recruitment.

We are available to make presentations to community and civic groups, as well as to businesses in the area.

Support to Other Agencies
BACS supports the four transit agencies in our region, Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA), Hillsborough Area Regional Transit (HART), Pasco County Public Transportation (PCPT) and The Bus of Hernando County by distributing their information to commuters at their work sites. BACS also provides marketing and staff support to the four Transportation Management Organizations in the region:
